Hold the Cannoli!

Today I saw a friend I haven’t seen in a while. He asked if I am still running (I haven’t discussed my love for running here much). “No,” I answered. “I just tried again, but because of an injury I am no longer able.”

He responded, “Well, you don’t have to run anyway, you are just naturally fit.”

“Naturally fit?!”

“What?!!” I didn’t say.

There are a few thin people who can eat anything and not gain weight. But are they fit? That was me when I was 20 something. Eat a whole row of Oreos with a huge glass of milk in one sitting. Or how about a Whopper, not junior, large fries and a chocolate shake?

I am careful about what I eat. I think about it way more than I should. There are days like today I eat the cannoli. Most days I turn it down. I went on a kick for a while eating Tostitos and ice cream, every day. That did not go well.

I exercise. I actually love to exercise. Of course, there are some days I don’t want to finish the thirty-minute video or don’t feel like going to the gym. Most days, I kind of want to and some days I really can’t wait to sweat.

Three sides to my story.

1. I’m vain. Yep, vanity! I like looking good in the style I want to wear. I do work out to eat sometimes.

2. I enjoy being healthy. I remember making the decision to get back into shape when I couldn’t climb Sleeping Bear Dunes with my 8-year-old. Now I have grandchildren! I want to live long and keep up with them.

3. “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” Deuteronomy 30:19

Choose Life!

We have to make choices every day. When making those choices, weigh them out: Life or Death? Blessing or Curse?

It’s all about choices!

Make life choices today,

Susie
